Gaumukh Trek (Uttarakhand)

Day 01

Arrival in Dehradun and Drive to Gangotri (240 km, 10-12 hours)

Route: Dehradun → Uttarkashi → Gangotri. Activities: Early morning drive from Dehradun to Gangotri via Uttarkashi. Stop at places like Tehri Dam and Uttarkashi for short breaks and enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Garhwal Himalayas. Arrive at Gangotri, one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for Hindus. Visit the Gangotri Temple in the evening and attend the evening aarti. Overnight stay: Guesthouse in Gangotri (altitude 10,200 ft).

Day 02

Gangotri to Chirbasa (9 km trek, 5-6 hours)

Activity: Begin your trek from Gangotri after breakfast. The trail to Chirbasa follows the Bhagirathi River and offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks. Walk through dense pine forests and along scenic mountain trails with occasional glimpses of the Bhagirathi group of peaks. Reach Chirbasa, which means "Abode of Pines," by late afternoon. The campsite offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Overnight stay: Campsite at Chirbasa (altitude 11,600 ft).

Day 03

Chirbasa to Bhojbasa (5 km trek, 3-4 hours)

Activity: The trek from Chirbasa to Bhojbasa is relatively easy, with a gradual ascent. The trail becomes more barren, with fewer trees, but offers expansive views of the Bhagirathi peaks and the glacier. Reach Bhojbasa, a vast open camping area with stunning views of Mt. Shivling and other peaks. Spend the afternoon exploring the area or resting at the campsite. Overnight stay: Campsite at Bhojbasa (altitude 12,450 ft).

Day 04

Bhojbasa to Gaumukh and Back to Bhojbasa (9 km trek, 5-6 hours)

Activity: Start early for the trek to Gaumukh, the source of the Ganges River. The trek follows the glacier and offers spectacular views of Mt. Shivling, Bhagirathi peaks, and the Gangotri Glacier. Gaumukh (13,200 ft) is the point where the Bhagirathi River emerges from the snout of the glacier. Spend some time at this spiritual site, taking in the majestic views and soaking in the serene atmosphere. After exploring Gaumukh, trek back to Bhojbasa. Overnight stay: Campsite at Bhojbasa.

Day 05

Bhojbasa to Gangotri (14 km trek, 7-8 hours)

Activity: After breakfast, start your descent back to Gangotri. Retrace your steps along the same scenic route, enjoying the stunning landscapes and views of the mountains. Reach Gangotri by late afternoon. Visit Suryakund Near Gangotri. Overnight stay: Guesthouse in Gangotri.

Day 06

Drive from Gangotri to Dehradun (240 km, 10-12 hours)

Activity: Early morning drive back from Gangotri to Dehradun. End of trek.
